Our trust has around 10,000 staff serving 1.6 million patients. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and more than 30 services in the community.  This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.

Our mission is to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we will continue to measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.

Consultant Renal Transplant Surgeon with a Special Interest in Transplant Urology (10 PAs)

Applications are invited for this substantive consultant post within the renal transplant surgery department at the Royal Free. We perform 120-140 renal transplants per year, as well as providing dialysis access for approximately 800 patients. The existing four substantive consultants have specialist interests in complex vascular access and reconstructive vascular surgery, minimally-invasive/robotic surgery, endocrine surgery, organ procurement, transplant immunology, and medical education.  We are looking for a dynamic individual that will not only support the anticipated expansion of our transplant and dialysis programmes, but will also deliver service improvements and enhance the range and quality of specialist care already provided.

The successful applicant will work jointly within the renal transplant and urology departments, and will be expected to perform diagnostic urology procedures, as well as pre- and post- transplant urological assessment of renal transplant recipients. They will contribute to a 1:6 consultant rota for renal transplantation, and will have the option of contributing to the abdominal organ procurement service. It would be desirable for the successful applicant to have had training in minimally-invasive donor nephrectomy and/or experience in the acute post-transplant out-patient clinic.

Candidates must have full GMC registration and must be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of their CCT from the date of the interview.
