Join our dynamic, progressive and skilled ED consultant team at the Royal Free Hospital

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Emergency Department (ED) team, as part of an expansion in consultant-led service for our department.

You will join an existing team of eight consultants to work across our newly built state of the art emergency department which incorporates:

  • A majors area with capacity for 24 patients
  • Six bedded Resuscitation Room,
  • Six bedded front-end Rapid Assessment Triage facility
  • A custom built ambulatory care unit,
  • 30 bedded short stay ward

Separate paediatric facility staffed by ED. We are a tertiary referral centre for several specialties and enjoy a good working relationship with our colleagues within the wider Trust.

These are exciting times; we are currently in the process of change and are looking for innovative, enthusiastic individuals to help develop and deliver a world class care service to our patients alongside a highly competent team within our new multi million pound department. We are fortunate to be located in a an area with excellent facilities with Hampstead Heath close by. There are many local coffee shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants as well as an impressive high street and direct access to central London. As a team we recognise that a work/life balance is vital, and a thriving social life is enjoyed amongst the ED staff.

We welcome candidates who are on the GMC Specialist Register as Emergency Medicine Consultants, in particular those with dual accreditation or a special interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine would be most welcome. Last year we saw 108,000patients , over 20% of these are paediatrics attendances, with 5% overall annual growth.

The post comprises 10 Programmed Activities (of which 2.5 will be as SPA) per week with an on call commitment. We welcome LTFT candidates as we understand the need for flexibility; equally we are able to offer up to 12 pa’s for those wanting to work more extensive hours.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their portfolio according to individual interests and strengths, and mentorship will be provided by experienced members within the group. To facilitate personal growth the successful candidate will be able to take advantage of the expertise amongst the group which includes RCEM national lead, TPD and STP representation, QI coaching and CQC specialist advisors.

The start date will be by mutual agreement.
