Our trust has around 10,000 staff serving 1.6 million patients. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and more than 30 services in the community.  This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.

Our mission is to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we will continue to measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.

Applicants are invited for a (10PA) Consultant Dermatologist to join the Dermatology team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust from October 2018. The post is based at two of the main sites of the Trust, namely Chase Farm Hospital and Barnet Hospital. The appointee will play a key role in realising our ambition to build a world class clinical and academic Dermatology service.

Over the last 18 months the department has begun to transform the way Dermatology Services are delivered to ensure that we can provide our patients with a responsive service and that clinical outcome measures can be used to assess the quality of provision across our units. We have just launched a Teledermatology service and we are implementing new pathway models based on clinical protocols and best outcomes for our patients to reduce clinic variation across all sites.

The successful candidate should have enthusiasm for team working and delivering services across a number of different sites. The post involves working alongside experienced Consultants with sub-speciality interests, Dermatology specialist nurses, Clinical Fellows, GPs with extended roles and Clinical Assistants. It is expected that the applicant will engage with the teaching and training of Specialist Registrars in Dermatology and undergraduate students who rotate through the department.

The post holder will carry out their regular clinic schedule as well as review referrals from the wards and A&E, carry out ward rounds and partake in our triaging rota. Currently, there is no on-call commitment for this post.

We are committed to support our new Consultants to develop sub-specialty interests. We are developing attending models for many of our services such as general, paediatric, skin cancer and psoriasis that will have a strong educational and teaching component. Therefore, although this advert is for a 10PA job encompassing both surgical/cancer skills as well as managing complex inflammatory patients, if candidates would be interested in a more focused role with 7-8 PA’s in one area the department are happy to consider two separate roles should suitable applicants apply. This can be discussed in more detail at interview. Applicants are therefore encouraged to apply even if they have a preference for a more focused, sub-specialty role which is less than 10PA’s.

The job is currently undergoing Royal College Approval.

Interview Date: 5th of November 2018.
