Specialty Doctor in Breast Surgery
This is a full-time (10 programmed activities) post based at the Barnet Hospital site of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Breast Surgery Department. The Breast Surgery Department consists of three very busy and dynamic units that provide care for the local population in North and North Central London. Based across three hospital sites, Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free Hospital, the unit has specialist interest in breast reconstruction, in intra-operative radiotherapy, and endoscopic mastectomy techniques. The unit has close links to the Plastic Surgery unit within the Royal Free Hospital.
There is a dedicated breast clinic with a co-located breast ultrasound and digital mammogram unit. At Barnet General Hospital, the breast unit currently shares space with Gynaecology and Oncology with imaging located on level 1. Breast clinics are held within the main outpatient Chase Farm Hospital. However, on the opening of the new hospital in Autumn 2018 a co-located breast ultrasound and digital mammogram unit will be available to patients.
The successful applicant will join a team of seven breast surgery consultants, two specialty doctors (one this vacancy), one specialist registrar and four senior clinical fellows. The department is also supported by two lead breast nurses and ten clinical nurse specialists along with eight breast radiology consultants.
This post will focus on delivering patient centred care at the Barnet General hospital site. The workload includes general and cancer breast one stop outpatient clinics, elective surgery (at the Royal Free Hospital site), including joint breast reconstructive surgery with the Plastic Surgeons based at the Royal Free Hospital site, junior medical staff supervision, supporting nurse practitioners, risk management, audit and teaching. Elective operating activities will be delivered at Chase Farm Hospital. The post holders will work in close co-operation with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to provide high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
